Another street shot of Paris..
That one was really creepy when i saw it. Because it was a hip shot at my back and i didn't really see what was going on when i took it.
What is really goin on with those persons.. Personaly i can't believe it's real, because there were mayn of them around Notre-Dâme, looking pretty the same.. However, people acting "for" those Beggar-Gangs mostly "work" under conditions that are much worse than those of a homeless.

"Enjoy"

Still love this image...regardless of the story behind it. Very powerful. That expression you captured...man. Thought I had collected it as a fav. Guess I didn't...but will so now. Ever try it as a B&W?

First of all: Thank you very much!
And yep, tried it as B&W. Didn't give the expected kick. I think it's just the low saturated feeling that gives this "low battery" feeling in this. And as i said: I neither had a look through the camera nor did i see this woman's expression! An was stunned after it, too!

lol...I've been there...especially in the "film days". Everything was an latent image till developed. At least now with digital we can see results a few seconds after but there is still that moment when we aren't certain of what we captured with "street shooting". Things happen in a flash and then the moment is gone. This works extremely well in color...it's all about that figure's expression and the photographer who captured it precisely at the right moment. Kudos, Martin.

:) That's why photographing "filmy" is still essential i think. At least to learn REAL Photography. YOu get a much better eye for the composition. All pictures are made by THINKING not by just pushing the button (to use that metaphor again ;))
Thanks!! :)

MC...I love this photo...I know the difficulties of "street shooting" in a media savvy world, but I must say before reading the comments on this image I was "taken in" by the looks of this person. I would have dropped a coin in her cup for sure, believing she was in dire straights. Yet regardless of wether she is homeless or not, I'd probably would still have given her something because to me nothing could be lower to one's self esteem than to BEG IN THE STREETS, Uggg. But that being said this is a great photo. The wide aperture helped to isolate her from the background quiet effectively and to have done all that "shooting form the hip" is commendable.

Thank you very much again!
However the point is, that a donation for any of those gangs is NEVER a donation for the people but everytime for the gangbosses.. And to subsidize them is to continue this.
Damn vicious circel...

Oh, now I understand. I thought when I read gangs..that it was just gangs of homeless "gypsies" and not "slaves" for some inglorious pimps. Thanks for clearing this up for me. If ever I'm in Paris I will look out for them for sure.

But I doubt I'll be in Paris or anywhere one needs to fly to, because I fear flying. I'm waiting for Star Trek transportation...beam me up, Scoty!

Still such a wonderful photo, that expression you captured on her face is outstanding. Someone (you) should do a photo documentary (from the pimps to the slaves to the targets) on this. You already have the great dramatic opening piece.
Nice job, MC.

Yeah. It's strange.
But I guess it's how the world works. Always someone taking advantage of others. And I doubt that those people who "works" for those gangs are willing to help, I think there must be a reason for them to end up with those guys in the first palce
